We are an independent member of The Arts Society which is based in UK.
The Arts Society was formerly known as the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS). In 2017 it was decided that the term decorative and fine arts no longer described accurately its wide range of arts-related interests and activities and the society changed its name.
The Arts Society has over 380 societies throughout the UK, and there are now 16 Societies in Europe and 24 in Australia. Together they represent a worldwide membership of over 90,000.
As a member of NADFAS we, too, changed our name in 2017.
We are a thriving society with over 200 members.
Our primary aim is to further the enjoyment, knowledge and awareness of the Arts internationally, and to stimulate interest in the artistic heritage of Spain.
How to watch our lectures
All our lectures are presented by the lecturer in Nerja.
In addition, most of the lectures are streamed via Zoom.
A new feature for the 2023-24 season is to record the streamed lecture and offer it on a 'catchup' service on our YouTube channel for a limited period after the lecture.
That way our members can choose the viewing method best suited to their circumstances.
The season of activities runs from October to May. For the 2324 season we are offering 11 lectures, 9 of which are given by The Arts Society lecturers. They cover a wide range of artistic, historical and cultural topics.
We organize several art-related one day trips per season, plus a multi-day cultural tour to various parts of Spain and Europe, as well as social and cultural activities.
We organize activities so members can meet each other.
Sometimes there is a dinner after a lecture. Everyone is welcome, but you must book beforehand with the dinners co-ordinator - a booking form is available on the website for a couple of weeks before the lecture.
We offer our members the possibility to come and evaluate our programme during our coffee morning, which will be later this season.
Non-members are welcome to attend these events for a small additional charge. However there is a maximum number for most events (we may be limited to a certain number of seats on the coach for example), and our policy is that members have priority over non-members in booking our events.
Members receive a monthly local Newsletter by email as well as The Arts Society Magazine.
