YOUNG MUSICIAN FESTIVAL

The First Music Competition
Sponsored by ‘The Arts Society Nerja’

The Competition

The aim of the competition is to celebrate and encourage aspiring, talented young musicians between the ages of 8 - 17 years who live in Málaga and its province. This unique event is the only competition in Spain that is open to all instruments of the orchestra. 

There are two categories:

Junior: between 8 and 12 years of age on the 26th March 2022,

Youth: between 12 and 17 years of age on the 26th March 2022.

 

The auditions will be held on Saturday 26th March and Sunday 27th March 2022 at the Villa de Nerja Centro Cultural on Calle Granada.

Registration 

Contestants must present to the jury their programme consisting of 3 works of different styles. For pianists one piece must be by a Spanish composer.
Before the start of the auditions, two copies of each of the contestant’s works should be delivered to the jury.
The registration deadline is set on December 26th 2021. (see Application Form).
At the end of the registration period the jury may see fit to ask for a video of a short performance by each participant. 

Contest 

The contest is structured around two auditions : an Eliminator (on 26th March) and a Final (on 27th March)

Eliminator
Two works will be performed, one chosen by the contestant and the other by the jury.

Final
The work which had not been performed in the Eliminator will be played. This must not exceed 10 minutes duration.

In the auditions for string and wind instruments each contestant may be accompanied by a pianist, this is not a mandatory requirement.

Prizes - 2 categories

Junior up to 12 years old
Winners will receive individual trophies. The winners of the age group 8-12 will be offered a package of school supplies.


Youth up to 17 years old.
There will be prizes ranging in value from 150 to 300 euros for wind, strings and piano.

Those contestants who pass the Eliminator stage but who do not receive a prize will be awarded a diploma.

All finalists will receive a trophy.

The decision of the jury is final.
