The Arts Society Nerja is a non profit making society (Asociación sin ánimo de lucro) but when we find ourselves with an unplanned surplus, we reach out to support other charities, most often related to Art and Young people.
We have as one of our most important aims to support Community Projects in order
• to make a difference in people’s lives
• to develop skills and personality
• to heal
• to enjoy and have a great time
• to stimulate young artistic talent to excel.
- We collaborate in Art Projects in which Art is used as a tool to stimulate the artistic and creative development of people of any age, children, young people or old people who are in difficult circumstances, who are less fortunate, who are living on the margin of society, or those who are vulnerable and in need of help.
Our Community projects have won the International Marsh Award!
Our three Community Projects
1. GOTELÉ: A YOUNG BAND IN NERJA
We are making it possible for a very young group of musicians who call themselves Gotelé, to practise in a professional studio, to improve their skills and enjoy making music together. We are paying for the rent of the studio. Gotelé is a musical group made up of five young artists aged between 13 and 15 who have found in music a way to express themselves, grow, and connect with others. Read more.
2. FLAMENCO DANCE CLASSES FOR COLEGIO LA GLORIA IN VELEZ-MALAGA
We have supported this project for 4 years, since 2023. Antonio Guerra gives weekly classes at the primary school where there are many children from marginal and fragmented families. There is a group of 17 girls and two boys of 7-8 years old.
In May 2026 the children performed in the Centro Cultural Nerja to show us what they have learnt.
3. MUSIC COMPETITION FOR YOUNG TALENT from the Province of Málaga:
PIANO, WIND AND STRING INSTRUMENTS
In April 2026 we held, for the 4th time, a competition for young talent in Teatro del Carmen in Vélez Málaga. Paula Coronas, Babak Eshraghi, Daniela Basno and Elena Pisonero, all professional musicians, were our jury. Our aim is to give the children an opportunity to shine on stage.
We donated diploma’s, trofies and 5 money prizes in 2 age categories.
The jury members each donated a special money Prize for best interpretation piano (Spanish composer), violin (Rumanian composer) and guitar.
The Music shop Musikarte in Málaga donated 3 vouchers for the youngest group till 12 years old.
The level was incredibly high.
We organize a concert for the winners in July to be able to shine and gain stage experience in the Ateneo in Málaga, a beautiful and historic building.
Next year in 2027 the V Competitition for Young Talented Musicians will take place.
We are honoured to count on the collaboration of famous musicians like the pianist Paula Coronas.
