Flamenco - the heartbeat of the south

Note for our members and friends
We will be showing this video on October 5th as the first item in the new season.
See the lecture page for more information.
We were very disappointed when the TAS AGM 2020 in Málaga was cancelled, apart from seeing you and showing you Málaga, we were also asked to do a 30 minute version of our lecture on Flamenco with a live performance of 4 artists:

“Flamenco, the Heartbeat of the South, its History, its Rhythms”

What a pity! A missed opportunity?

Well no, because during these hard times of the pandemic we, The Arts Society Nerja, decided to treat our Members to this lecture on-line in a professionally recorded version of a full

It was recorded without audience and respecting all the appropriate sanitary measures.

Actually, you could say it is much better than the live version, because as it was recorded with three cameras it has wonderful close ups, all the lyrics are subtitled, and you can now share it with your whole society!

Your Society now has the unique opportunity to see the full, 55 minutes, professionally recorded performance! An Art related lecture on a World Heritage topic!
A wonderful way to end or start your season with something very special!

Flamenco is song,

Flamenco is music,

Flamenco is dance,

Flamenco is passion and poetry,

Flamenco is a way of dressing,

Flamenco is a way of life.

Flamenco is a memory of a long ago past and the soul of the people of Andalucía.

And it is listed as World Heritage.

We would like to share our passion for flamenco with you and show you Flamenco is not just a show you can go to as evening entertainment, it is the heartbeat of the people of the South and part of everyday life.

We will look at the history of Flamenco and the origin of its name.
We will focus on the three essences of Flamenco:Song, Music and Dance while demonstrating examples of the rhythms.
There are 50 different song groups and we will demonstrate 7 of them.

Our Flamenco artists are local Spanish artists, they have performed abroad, far and near, and their very souls are flamenco!
