Our charity for 2021-2022: Two Music Festivals

In these hard times, we have supported the destitute in our community with their basic needs. However, we have also set up two projects that bring a smile to the face of a child and gives them an enriching experience.

Festival 1     Musical Adventure

The aim of this festival is to bring a smile to the faces of children and young people of poor families, namely in the area of Torre del Mar where there is a shanty town and a big gypsy community.

We want to have them get a sense of success, to let them work together with others, to integrate with other children of different cultures in the community.
We want to use art, music and dance, as a tool to develop their personality and also to give them opportunities for the future.

In this project The Arts Society Nerja is collaborating with

  • Townhall of Torre del Mar,
  • Caritas (Torre del Mar),  a relief, development and social service organization operating in over 200 countries and territories worldwide. their mission is to work to build a better world, especially for the poor and oppressed. They are all volunteers. For those in difficulties they pay their rent or mortgage, their bills for medicine, for glasses, electricity, water or gas, food, school material and so on.
  • Military Order of the Collar (MOC), an ancient Order of Chivalry, founded in the 13th Century by the Aragonese Kings of Majorca. It is a non-national Order. The Order practices good works through its various foundations, both national and international.

Programme

On Saturday 23 October 2021 there will be several workshops for the children, given by professionals.

A Music workshop with recycled instruments by two musicians from the company Vibra-Tó. a collective of multi-instrumentalist musicians who create musical instruments from everyday objects and waste materials.

It is an interactive didactic-musical project in which two multi-instrumentalist musicians-pedagogues perform their own compositions and music with unusual, unconventional instruments made from waste materials, like cans turned into guitars and tambourines, bottles, funnels, combs, tubes etc.
They will teach the children to make instruments and then create an orchestra, practice and in the evening, there will be a concert to celebrate their achievements.

Dance workshops with Street dancing and Break dancing. These workshops are given by two professional dancers from the dance school New Crew.
They are also going to kindly donate a dance scholarship.

Video workshop: we are looking into the possibility of adding a video workshop while those that attend will make a video of the day and present the video at the beginning of the performance to the audience.

Film Workshop where a professional will instruct a small group of ´cameramen´ how to make a film, they will then film the day with giving an overview of the workshops. The film will be presented and shown during the evening performance.

Lunch
In between the workshops we are hoping to be able to organize a lunch for the children and their parents.

Performance
After the workshops there will be a performance to which you are all cordially invited. It is planned to take place on the Paseo Maritimo in Torre del Mar.

Scholarships
We are investigating the possibility of giving three children the opportunity of a Scholarship by MOC enabling them to learn to play a real instrument and go a music school and /or the Conservatorio, the Music academy.
The New Crew are also kindly donating a Dance Scholarship.
